FINALLY, the Pusan Post

Pronounced Pusan, spelled Busan. The same thing happens with the letters K and G. Anyway, this is the front of the Train Station in Busan.

Baxter loves the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation! I wonder who we'll see? Maybe George Bush, or Prime Minister Koizumi! Looks peaceful...

Look at the beautfiul display of flowers; the people of Busan sure love APEC 2005!

There's a nice, non-flaming bus. Busan is nice.

So, on a lazy sunday afternoon, after a fun weekend of peaceful sight-seeing around south-eastern Korea, Baxter and I bid APEC 2005 a fond farewell, thanks for the memories. We casually boarded the KTX Bullet Train bound for "home."

The next day, while talking to our vice commander, I find out Pusan was off limits due to protests. Later that day, the public affairs office sends out a warning e-mail saying the exact same thing. I guess someone should have told us that earlier. I'm sure they're only being over-protective, certainly no violent, bad shit could go down. Not in sleepy ole Pusan.

Here's the e-mail:

Team Wolf Pack,

Due to protests regarding the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) the Busan-Gyeongju area is off limits to all USFK personnel, expect those already living in the area, until 22:00 on 20 Nov 05. Kunsan personnel are not to travel to the Busan-Gyeongju area while it is off limits.

Then, on Tuesday evening, this Bus is on the news:

Here's the story, of course handled much better by the pro's.

So, we missed all the fun, but who knows; maybe I can catch APEC 2006 in Vietnam!
